Day 5

Day 5:  A song to match your mood

Bruno Mars - The Lazy Song
"Today I don't feel like doing anything..."

Day 4 + blog makeover

Day 4:  Your parents

As an only child, I love my parents dearly.  They endured countless years of being my Barbie playmates, my grocery store customers (yes, I made them buy groceries from their own kitchen), my talk-show audience... pretty much my everything.  I'm lucky I get to see them fairly often since I only live about an hour away.  Even though they're a short drive away I can always be equally entertained by their ridiculous phone calls and text messages!

Granted, they've both come a long way with their technology know-how, but they are FAR from even being considered "beginners" at the internet and cell phones.  If my Dad had it his way, he'd still be using a typewriter and my Mom would use a corded phone.

My Mom enjoys sending undecipherable text messages to which I reply, "try again!," in hopes that she'll include some punctuation or even vowels in the message.  Wishful thinking.

Exciting life, Mom
Please notice the BLANK TEXT.

Don't be fooled - these weekday gardening texts are quickly followed by the Friday night phone conversations that go something like this...

Mom:  Hey! What are you doing!?
Me: Studying (yes, on a Friday night - medical school sucks sometimes a lot.)
Mom:  Do you haaaaave to study?  We're going to the CASINO! Come with us!
Me: No thanks, I can't tonight.
Mom:  You're boring.

My dad is a little less of a "texter" and more of a phone call kinda guy.  He does like to send picture messages though.  So, first I get a phone call from my Mom asking if I know who the band Tool is and then immediately get a text from my Dad:

My Dad is awesome and hangs w/rockers.

Obviously, my Dad is unfazed by celebrities.  Baller.

My parents are hilarious and the best a girl could ask for -- I couldn't be any luckier.

I only look tall because of heels.

*Mom & Dad - I know you won't read this because I banned you from getting facebook and/or twitter, but I love you! If you're reading this - you're in sooo much trouble!

What do you guys think of my little blog makeover?

Day 3

Day 3:  Your first love

This is definitely the PERFECT opportunity for me to tell you all about my fairy tale first love.  Could it be a) my childhood best friend turned high school sweetheart?  Or how about b) my 8th grade boyfriend who dumped me after two weeks because I wouldn't do his homework?  (What a douche.  I'm definitely still pissed not bitter about this.)  It could even be c) the boy who broke all of my crayons in kindergarten because he "liked me" and was the reason I had to "pull a strip"(only time I got in trouble, EVER) for "tattling" when I asked for new crayons because mine were broken.  Nope, screw that guy.

The correct answer is...
d) NONE OF THE ABOVE.

Let's be honest... this dreamboat had my heart waaaay before them all.

Zack Morris

What's not to love about this hunk of a pre-teen?  He makes a giant brick cell phone look good.  I'd be lying if I said I don't secretly enjoy days I have to be awake at 6am because it means I get to watch an episode of Saved by the Bell.

Honorable Mention:

Devon Sawa in Casper

Thomas Ian Nicholas in Rookie of the Year

Who was your childhood crush?

Easter Weekend Update:

Went home this weekend with the boyfriend.

Hometown = Anahuac, TX -- the Alligator Capitol of Texas... I shit you not.
My hometown deserves a post all on its own which I will gladly work on.

Here are the results of our egg hunt, after which my Dad kindly asked if we were "done with the Easter bunny shit."  Don't be fooled by these photos - I am not trying to get a head start... we started on the other side of the yard.  There was also an incident (not captured on camera) where an Easter egg was ripped right out of my hand!  Rude.

Mark, the cheater.

The domination.  Amy - 39, Mark - 34

Thanks, Mom & Dad, for indulging my childhood wishes and still hiding Easter eggs for me.  I'll never be too old for this.

Day 2

Day 2 - Meaning behind your blog name.

I feel like this is rather obvious/self-explanatory once you watch the following educational video:

Couldn't have said it better myself.

If you paid close attention, you can see that the white coats in the video are actually quite long.  As for the title of my blog, the short part of it is referenced during the song - "other schools with shorts look like utter noobs."  That would be my school.  (However, mostly all of the medical schools in Texas give their medical students short white coats to distinguish us from doctors in the hospital who can actually save your life in a medical emergency.)  I'm perfectly happy looking like a noob.  In fact, wearing a long white coat seems rather terrifying at this point.  That fear should probably go away seeing as how I'm not that far from getting a long white coat of my own.  It'll go away, right?

So, welcome to my blog - all about my life in a short white coat.

Day 1 - Inaugural Post

After much internal struggle and several months years of blog-stalking some of my favorite ladies from college, I've finally jumped on the blogging bandwagon.

So, in order to spark my creativity, I decided to do a 30 Day Challenge just to make sure I had ideas about what to write about.  Let's be honest - I probably won't actually blog every day, but hey... it's good to have goals

Day 1: A photo and 5 interesting facts

1.  I'm 24 and I'm a professional student.  By "professional student", I mean I'm in my 20th year of school and I have no job and I make no money.  In fact, I pay to do slave labor work everyday.  I feel like there's something wrong with this picture. Why did I want to be a doctor again?

2.  I hate peanut butter.  It may be a little early to throw this out there.  If I lose you as a follower, I understand.  I know it's un-American, weird, blasphemous, etc. - but just the smell of it makes me want to vomit.  Peanut butter cookies?  No thanks.  PB&J sandwiches?  I'll pass.

3.  I have an uncanny ability to memorize the lyrics to any song I hear and remember them for life*. Try me. *not an exaggeration If only this ability translated into a magical ability to remember all of the medical knowledge I try to put in my head.  Sorry CPR training, there's no room for you.  You're trying to sit in *NSYNC's spot in my brain.  Oh hey, bleeding man! You need me to suture that for you? Why don't I just sing you some Garth Brooks instead.

4.  I want a pet penguin. (I also wanted a lap giraffe until I realized it isn't real.) I ask the boyfriend for one on pretty much a daily basis.  If you need an explanation, refer to this: I want.

5. If you want to make me happy, go buy me a snow cone.  Easy as that.

And here's what you have to look forward to:
